Legendary singer Sir Tom Jones captivated a crowd of over 12,000 as he performed an impressive set of his iconic hits on the Roodee last night (Sunday 12th August).
Gates opened at 4pm, and excited fans made their way through Chester Racecourse and out onto the open course where they waited in anticipation for the global superstar to take to the stage.
A thundery shower didn’t put a dampener on festivities, as the audience got into the spirt by donning ponchos and fastening hoods while enjoying music from support acts Jerry Williams and Into The Ark.
Once the storm had passed, Sir Tom took centre stage just as the sun began to set over the Roodee – welcomed by the cheers of his adoring fans.
The concert marked the end of his current tour, and the 78-year-old did not disappoint as he wowed the crowds for the final show of the tour.
Sir Tom belted out popular songs from across the decades (including Delilah, Mama Told Me Not to Come and Sex Bomb) as well as some of his more recent material from his latest album, much to the delight of his fans.
Richard Thomas, CEO of Chester Racecourse said: “The event was a huge success and we are thrilled to have welcomed the thousands of fans onto the Roodee for an unforgettable evening of entertainment.
“Sir Tom’s performance was outstanding and he brought something very special to Chester.”
Liz Doogan-Hobbs MBE, CEO of the event producers LHG Live, added: “The Racecourse is a beautiful setting for an outdoor concert and last night’s event proved that.
“We have established a long term partnership with Chester Racecourse and will be working together going forwards to bring more incredible music to the Roodee, utilising everything we have learned together to improve customer experience.
“Sir Tom thoroughly enjoyed his final show of the tour and was overwhelmed by the welcome he received, and the fantastic atmosphere at Chester.”
Sunday’s gig was a rescheduled appearance following Sir Tom’s ill health last month.
