Breast screening units at two hospitals in the north of England are set to be given a fundraising boost following a charity event taking place early next month.
The Boot Out Breast Cancer Ball is taking place on Saturday 7 March 2026 at the Kimpton Clocktower Hotel in Manchester, and all proceeds from the event will be donated to support the breast units at Macclesfield District General Hospital in Cheshire and at Leeds NHS Teaching Hospital in Yorkshire.
The evening will bring together supporters and donors to raise money to purchase life-saving diagnostic equipment.
Debbie Dowie founded the charity in 2010 following her own breast cancer diagnosis, and having experienced firsthand the life-saving importance of early detection.
She has dedicated herself to ensuring NHS breast units have access to the latest technology.
Ms Dowie recently visited Macclesfield Hospital where she met clinicians and staff to find out more about the services they provide and the difference new equipment can make.
“Meeting colleagues at the unit gave a great insight and reinforced why funding high-quality diagnostic equipment is so essential,” she said.
“It speeds up diagnosis, improves accuracy, and ultimately saves lives.”
The fundraiser will be hosted by BBC Sports presenter Hugh Ferris along with live music provided by Kevin Simm, lead vocalist of Wet Wet Wet.
