As the countdown to Wimbledon begins, tennis players in Tattenhall are setting up for their own smashing matches after securing a grant of £280 from property giant Redrow.
The housebuilder has donated money to Tattenhall Tennis Club on Field Lane which is being used to buy benches and a new gazebo for spectators to use.
The donation forms part of Redrow’s Tattenhall Community Fund of £5,000 which was set up last year to provide support to local causes and groups.
In all, ten community groups were chosen to receive funding, including the tennis club.
Jane Roberts and Helen Rideal, the club’s secretary and treasurer, applied for the funding.
Helen said: “We are a small, self-funded organisation which provides an active tennis calendar for all ages, including mini and junior clubs as well as coaching.
“After resurfacing our two courts we had drained our financial resources and were in desperate need of new equipment such as the benches, ideal for parents watching their children play, and the gazebo, which we like to use during our tournaments and social events throughout the year.”
