Wilmslow Running Festival 2020 postponed

Shares

Despite assurances as late as yesterday afternoon that the event would be going ahead as planned, organisers have confirmed that the Wilmslow Running Festival 2020 will now not take place today (15th March) and will be postponed until later in the year.

They posted on Facebook at 02.52am to say: “The Wilmslow Running Festival will NOT take place today 15/3/20 due to coronavirus but will be rescheduled.

“Having listened to feedback from our local community, volunteers and runners, we’ve taken the decision to minimise risks at this very difficult time for everyone.

“As we all know, the coronavirus is progressing on an hourly basis and we hope you’ll understand the reasons for the late cancellation of our event.

“All entries will be carried forward to a new date, which will be advised as soon as it’s safe to reschedule.

“Further details and options for runners will be posted on our website and social media later today.”

Organisers took to social media again at 6.06am to add: “Following the postponement of the Wilmslow Running Festival earlier this morning, we just want to make clear this decision was not taken lightly.

“Unfortunately frustrations were rising overnight and we felt necessary to make the tough decision that we did.

“Runners’ safety and the safety of our volunteers is always our priority.”

The post continued: “We simply had to take into consideration the concern of local residents – as a registered charity at Wilmslow Running Festival, community has and always will be our core.

“We are absolutely devastated at this decision as many of you are but also hopeful that the running community can understand why we have had to make the decision we did.

“Anyone booked on in the last 7 days will be issued a full refund. All other entries will be deferred to the later date (TBC).

“Again, please accept our apologies This was a really tough call, we’re all volunteers here at WRF and we just want to race and raise money for charity as much as you.”
