Young people are being invited to share what they love about their local area as part of a competition being run by their local MP.
MP Samantha Dixon, who represents Chester North and Neston, called for submissions from youngsters aged 5-18 who can enter in a variety of different ways.
Ms Dixon will choose two winners – one primary school age and one secondary school age.
The competition is part of a Parliament Week initiative to encourage children and young people to learn more about how parliament and our democracy works.
The Parliament Week runs from 18th – 24th November and will see youth groups, schools and community organisations taking part.
In 2023 it involved more than 1.6 million people in every nation and region of the UK, as well as countries around the world.
“I think it is really important for young people to get involved in our democracy and I admire the work UKPW do every year to promote the work of parliament with young people,” Ms Dixon said.
“This year, I wanted to encourage as many young people across Chester North and Neston to get involved and this could be a great opportunity for them to let their local MP know what they value most about their local area where they live.”
She added: “It is also important for me to hear about the priorities of our young people.
“They may not be able to vote yet, but their voices are just as important, and I represent everyone in the constituency.”
The competition being run by Ms Dixon can be entered by youngsters who submit:
– a short essay, story or poem about what they love and what is most important to them in their local area. (maximum length: 500 words)
– a short video explaining what they love about their local area. (maximum length: 1 minute)
– a drawing or piece of art to represent what they love most about their local area.
Entries can be sent to samantha.dixon.mp@parliament.uk or to Samantha Dixon MP, Houses of Parliament, London, SW1A 0AA by post.
