Native wildflower meadows created by Cheshire West and Chester Council’s StreetCare teams have been much-admired over the summer.
They were grown to give pollinators, like bees, a boost in the borough – and council officials say they’ve definitely caused a buzz on social media.
The wildflower displays were created using a bespoke Cheshire seed mix that was created by the Wildflower Centre based at the Eden Project.
Now that autumn is upon us, many of the displays are starting to die back and the council says it’s time to start reseeding.
CWAC deputy leader, Cllr Karen Shore said: “Teams will be cutting down the wildflower meadows over the next few weeks to ensure seeds pods disperse seeds into the soil, so next year’s colourful displays are even better.
“The wildflower meadows will be cut down in the order they were sown because some parts of the borough are still in bloom.
“The cuttings will initially be left on the ground for a few weeks to ensure as much seed as possible falls into the ground. Then, cuttings will be collected up again.
“Teams will also be sowing seeds for new meadows for next year, so the borough will be blooming even more.”
