7.45pm, Saturday 15th February 2020
Evans Theatre, Wilmslow Leisure Centre
Christmas festivities are over, and it’s time for Wilmslow Symphony Orchestra to get down to business and show what they can do with one of the great feasts of the Romantic repertoire, Rachmaninov’s Second Symphony.
This is a work which takes us on an emotional journey from the Slavic melancholy of the opening movement to one of Rachmaninov’s most life-affirming finales.

Guiding us through this journey will be young conductor and violinist Riley Court-Wood.
After graduating from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Court-Wood went on to study conducting at the Royal Northern College of Music.

The first half of the programme, which pairs Nielsen’s lively Maskarade Overture with Bruch’s ever-popular Violin Concerto No 1, is conducted by C J Wu, who is also a violinist, and who has worked with many international orchestras.

WSO is delighted to work with these two promising young artists, and also delighted to welcome back Sophie Rosa to play the Bruch Concerto.
The orchestra will be led by Rosy Williams and, as always, the concert will take place in the Evans Theatre at Wilmslow Leisure Centre.
There are plenty of parking places, as well as good disabled access and good visibility for the audience.
The concert takes place at 7.45pm on Saturday 15th February 2020.
Tickets cost £12 (concessions £10, under 18s only £2) and can be bought at the door, from the ticket secretary at 01925 756 144, or through the Wilmslow Symphony Orchestra website www.wilmsloworchestra.co.uk.
