Alderley Edge vocalist Ruth Moore set up the Siren Sounds Choir to make group singing accessible to anyone, whether they’re more used to singing in the shower or in public.
Designed as a supportive, empowering environment for anyone who can hold a tune, Siren Sounds members meet on Tuesday evenings (8pm-9.30pm) with a new term starting on 3rd September with a free taster session.
There is no audition, and no pressure to perform in public, just an opportunity to make friends, learn to use your voice safely, and practice harmonising with others.
Siren Sounds sings a varied repertoire – everything from pop to gospel, with an emphasis on three-part harmonies.
And if those harmonies sound too complicated, choir leader Ruth is always on-hand to provide guidance on technique.
Ruth explained: “Singing in harmony can seem scary, but new members are often amazed by how quickly they learn.
“I structure each session so everyone can move at their own pace, and tackle their own unique challenges – whether they learn by ear, or by reading sheet music.
“Siren Sounds is all about finding your inner confidence and improving your vocal skills in an approachable way. It’s a chance for local women to spend time focusing on themselves, and to have fun getting better at something they’re passionate about.”
There is no requirement for choir members to perform, but Siren Sounds gives everyone a chance to sing at events throughout the year – from small private showcases for family and friends, to summer fairs.
The free taster session is being held at Alderley’s Festival Hall, and is open to newcomers.
