A bank which says it is committed to “making a difference” and offering “a different type of banking for Britain” is set to open in Chester city centre this year.
Metro Bank, which currently has 76 branches, will open at 23-25 Foregate Street in June, according to bosses.
Building work is already underway, at the unit which was formerly home to the H Samuel and Warren James jewellery brands.
Metro Bank opened its first branch in 2010, and was the first new entrant to the high street banking sector in the UK for more than 100 years.
The new store in Chester will combine face-to-face banking with state-of-the-art technology, bosses said, and provide “a customer-focused and convenient banking experience”.
The company’s chief executive Daniel Frumkin said he was excited to be able to build Metro Bank’s brand and said the bank was also scouting other cities and towns that fit the brand’s business model.
Customers will be able to open a personal or business account “on-the-spot” when it opens later this year.
There are existing Metro Bank branches in Liverpool and Manchester.
