Last chance to see museum’s special animal exhibition

Shares

The UK officially acknowledges International War Animal Day on 24th February.

It is an international day of recognition to remember the sacrifice of countless animals killed in the line of duty over the centuries.

To mark the occasion, Cheshire Military Museum in Chester has a series of family activities planned during half term week which have an animal theme.

Visitors will be able to decorate their own animal hero to take home, with sessions running on 21st and 28th February (11.30am-3pm). There is no need to book, but normal admission fees apply.

The coming fortnight also gives visitors their last chance to see Cheshire Military Museum’s special exhibition, Animals at War, which closes to the public on 2nd March.

The exhibition tells the stories of animals who have served in the military and in civil defence.

It features protective equipment currently used by dogs serving in the British Army, loaned to the museum by 1st Military Working Dogs Regiment.

Visitors will also be able to find out about parachuting pigeons, dogs searching for survivors during the Blitz and how rats use their superpower (a sensitive nose even better than dogs) to clear war zones around the world.

The Cheshire Military Museum tells the story of the county’s military personnel from the 17th Century through to the present day. It also houses the archive of the Cheshire Regiment.
