It’s almost lambing week at Tatton Park

It’s not long now until lambing week begins at Tatton Park.

The farm is eagerly anticipating the pitter patter of tiny hooves with the little baby lambs set to arrive at the start of April.

Visitors could be lucky enough to see a lamb being born, whilst there’ll be plenty of opportunities to listen to farm staff giving talks in the lambing shed.

Lambing week at Tatton Park runs from Saturday 1st to Thursday 6th April, and is one of the surest signs that spring has sprung.

Ellie Edwards, farm assistant at Tatton Park, said: “This is our favourite time of year and this April we are expecting four singles, 19 sets of twins and one set of triplets – so, 45 lambs in total!

“It’s important to know how many lambs the ewes are expecting so that we can give the expectant ewes the correct care they require.

“We feed them on specialised ewe nuts which are full of all the nutrients, vitamins and minerals they need.”

Tatton Park’s farm team work hard throughout the winter to synchronise the ewes to lamb at roughly the same time.

In the spring, when lambing time comes, they work around the clock to help deliver the lambs safely.

Ellie added: “I enjoy lambing time and love being in the sheep shed at night making sure all the lambs get the best possible start to life.”

Tatton Park is managed and financed by Cheshire East Council on behalf of the National Trust.

Its picturesque parkland welcomes thousands of visitors each year – many of whom visit its 18th century mansion, medieval hall, award-winning hardens and rare breed farm.
