Dispersal order issued for Wilmslow town centre

Cheshire Police has issued a dispersal order for Wilmslow town centre, lasting for the vast majority of the coming weekend.

The order begins at 5pm on Friday 6th August and extends through until 5pm on Sunday 8th August.

Officers say the dispersal order has been made so as to prevent crime and anti-social behaviour, and it comes in response to a large number of incidents of crime and disorder that they had to attend last weekend.

The order was issued by Cheshire Police under section 34 of the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014.

It’s intended to prevent further issues causing disruption this weekend as well as to keep those who use the town, and local businesses, safe and secure.

Anyone found in breach of the order may be instructed to leave the area defined by the map (above) and faces arrest if they return within the specified times.

Asked if this might become an ongoing weekend dispersal order, a spokesperson for Cheshire Police said: “The order will be for the times stated only and will require reviewing if it is to be implemented in the future.

“The order relates to incidents that officers attended last weekend involving the nighttime economy where multiple issues of disorders took place, including an officer being assaulted.”

They added: “The order is intended to protect people, businesses and the local community.”
