Cheshire West and Chester Council elections 2023 – Helsby candidates

Shares

We’ve asked all of the candidates standing for election to Cheshire West and Chester Council to provide our readers with a short introduction to themselves.

We’ll publish these daily for all 45 council wards (in alphabetical order) in the build up to the local elections on 4th May 2023.

You can view all of the Cheshire West and Chester Council candidate submissions together by clicking here.

Listed below are all of the candidates seeking your vote in the Helsby ward.

Voters in Helsby can select one candidate to represent them on Cheshire West and Chester Council.

Helsby candidates:

  • Chris Copeman (Green Party)
  • Stephen Garrity (Conservatives)
  • David Heath (Liberal Democrats)
  • Pauline Lowrie (Labour)

Chris Copeman (Green Party)

I grew up in Helsby and know the area incredibly well.

I have supported the current Green councillor, Cllr Paul Bowers, over the last four years – speaking with residents on the doorstep and chasing up issues that matter to them.

I care deeply about our area and am enthusiastic about working even harder as councillor of Helsby if elected.

I’m excited about the prospect of standing for election in Helsby on 4th May.

I have had such positive feedback from residents on the doorstep over the last couple of months.

I will dedicate myself to representing the community to the very best of my ability.

Stephen Garrity (Conservatives)

For the past four years Helsby has been in limbo. Our incumbent Green councillor has been more interested in propping up the failing Labour council than speaking up for what Helsby needs.

Over 700 properties have been built in the past ten years, but the influx of new residents has not been matched by new school and GP places. Our doctor’s surgery is busier than ever.

I stand on the simple premise that I will support Helsby first.

I will not support Labour failure, housing developments without plans for public services, or the continuing decline or our road network.

I will give Helsby a voice again and make sure that our community, not the council, is in control.

David Heath (Liberal Democrats)

Nothing submitted.

Pauline Lowrie (Labour)

I’m privileged to have lived in this area for 46 years, where I brought up my children.

As a biology teacher for over 40 years, I’m passionate about the transformative power of education.

I’m proud that the schools in Helsby are all rated good, but beyond that lies a culture of caring for young people as individuals and helping them develop as unique individuals.

I’ve been a Chester Zoo volunteer for eight years, making me even more aware of the importance of caring for our environment, and measures necessary to ensure that our youngsters can grow up in a sustainable environment with renewable energy and natural ecosystems.

I’ve volunteered for years supporting refugees. I’m blown away by the kindness shown by  local people towards disadvantaged people.

I’d feel honoured to represent Helsby if elected, and I’ll work tirelessly to make this an even better place to live.
