Alderley Edge Festival 2020 cancelled

Shares

The Alderley Edge Festival 2020 will no longer be taking place, as numerous other events across the area are being cancelled or postponed due to the global outbreak of Covid-19 coronavirus.

Chairman Jonathan Meadmore said: “We have taken with considerable regret the very difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Alderley Edge Festival.

“The Coronavirus is a threat to us all and the Government Chief Medical Officer’s prediction is that cases will peak around the week of our Festival at the end of April.

“As there is so much about the current situation which is unknown, we have thought it wise to be proactive regarding the Festival. This isn’t a decision we have taken lightly, but we cannot risk the well-being of anyone who takes part in any capacity.”

Jonathan added: “We are so proud to be a part of this fantastic Festival and to welcome each year over 2500 entries across 5 venues and to be supported by our outstanding team of Stewards.

“We also have the privilege, and responsibility, for the safe running of the Festival, though it is our competitors, stewards, adjudicators and ardent supporters who make it special.

“This year, 2020, safety has had to be our key word and the safety of everyone who takes part in the Festival will always be our priority.

“However – we will back in 2021! We cannot wait to welcome your return to one of the oldest Festivals in the country.

“Please accept our apologies; we are as disappointed as you, but hope you understand why we have taken this action.”

Participants and professionals involved in the Alderley Edge Festival 2020 will be reimbursed in the coming weeks.
