
Macclesfield’s Barnaby Festival will welcome new guest performers to the town, along with celebrating local artistic and musical talent, when it returns from tomorrow (Friday 15th June).
Barnaby will launch a packed ten-day programme with Invisible Threads, an installation by nationally renowned artist Zarah Hussain, whose contemporary work will be located in Macclesfield Silk Museum. (read more)
The popular Visual Arts Trail will return too, where local artists will be exhibiting a diverse range of work at venues across the town centre.
The launch continues on Friday with The James Taylor Quartet performing in St Michael’s Church from 8pm. James has been described by DJ Craig Charles as ‘the best player of the Hammond organ this side of the Atlantic’.
Local music will be celebrated throughout Barnaby, with bands performing at pubs and venues across the town centre with a real focus on upcoming talent. (read more)
Over the first big weekend of the festival (16th-17th June) there will be street performance and food and drink in market place as well as a pop up marquee in St Michael’s churchyard, which will have a range of eclectic musical entertainment and spoken word.
There will be an opportunity to join comedian, writer, broadcaster and all-round British institution Arthur Smith in an evening of laughter and off the wall humour. Expect an evening of sublime playfulness on Friday 22nd June when he performs At Your Service at St Michael’s Church.
This year’s festival theme is Roots/Routes and, a traditional favourite, the Barnaby Parade will return on Saturday 16th June at midday with spectacular floats and costumes from community groups, school children and anyone else who wants to take part! (read more)
