New information boards are being installed around Parkgate to tell the history of the area.
The idea is to share more of the village’s history with residents and visitors, as well as providing them with useful information about the village as it is now.
The seven boards have been funded by pledges from local via Cheshire West Crowd Fund.
They’re spread along the whole of the Parade, and tell the story of Parkgate – including its shipbuilding heritage, the impact of the railways, connections with the fishing industry, rope making, famous residents and the Old Baths.
Cheshire West and Chester Council leader, Cllr Louise Gittins said: “The new boards look wonderful and it’s so good to see a true community project come to fruition.
“On every board our designers have ‘hidden’ a little ships wheel for children to find – it’s actually the logo for the Parkgate Society, which is a lovely touch.”
The council has worked with the Parkgate society to bring the project to fruition.
Derick Cotton, treasurer of the Parkgate Society, said: “Through this project we set out to enhance the visitor experience and to provide easy access to the rich Heritage that Parkgate village has to offer and we are delighted we achieved our funding target.”
He added that the group is grateful for the support of the council and local people.
The project’s success has inspired the Parkgate Society to launch a further crowd funding scheme which has now raised enough money for an accessible viewing platform at the Old Baths area, due to be completed later this year.
