
A beef farmer from Mobberley has been put forward for a national award by his local MP.
Ian Norbury, of Dairy House Farm, was nominated by Tatton MP Esther McVey, as her entry into the National Farmers Union’s Community Farming Hero competition.
He is an advocate for sustainable farming, and has been put forward for a national award after MPs were asked to nominate a farmer who in their area who has gone above and beyond.
Mr Norbury runs the pedigree Mobberley Aberdeen Angus herd and is passionate about educating both young and old who want to learn more about farming.
He encourages people to enjoy the countryside in a responsible way and is one of Cheshire’s farming ambassadors.
He recently drew in massive crowds at The Royal Cheshire County Show as people flocked to see his 780kg bull, named Electric, in the education marquee.
Esther McVey said: “Ian is keen to ensure that he farms in the most sustainable way as possible and he sells the beef of his farm locally to pubs and restaurants.
“I had a great time visiting the farm and on a visit prior to the pandemic I was lucky enough to be introduced to his bull Boris!
“Ian’s passion and enthusiasm for the industry makes him a worthy nomination.”
Mr Norbury’s farm is also involved in the Countryside Stewardship programme – a government scheme that provides incentives for farmers, woodland owners, foresters, and land managers to look after and improve the environment.
