A fire has broken out at Chester Zoo, prompting the evacuation of visitors as staff relocate animals away from danger.
The fire broke out in the zoo’s Monsoon Forest habitat, with fifteen fire appliances attending the scene as journalists and concerned onlookers gathered outside the zoo.
Chester Zoo posted on Twitter: “We can confirm fire services are attending a fire at our Monsoon Forest habitat.
“Visitors were evacuated. The zoo’s team worked with emergency services to bring the situation under control
“We are assessing the area and will update with info as we have it. The zoo remains closed.”
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that (as of 2.15pm) there had been no reports of injuries and all animals have been accounted for. Drivers are advised to avoid the area.
