The annual Poynton Health and Wellbeing Fair for older residents in the local area was held on Saturday 29th September, and has been hailed a great success.
The event is organised by Poynton-with-Worth Town Council along with Priorslegh and McIlryde Medical Practices Joint Patient Participation Group.
Many local residents attended to learn more about the range of services available to older people in Poynton, with entry free of charge.
As usual, the fair was timed to coincide with the first flu clinic of the season, at which hundreds of over-65s, and other groups who are particularly at risk of catching flu, received their free flu jab.
Any eligible local residents who missed out on receiving the flu jab at the fair can still contact their GP for more information and to arrange their vaccination.
The event also featured representatives from around twenty local organisations who provided residents with information and advice on services for older people, finances, health and local social clubs and activities.
Organisations in attendance included: Age UK Cheshire East, The Carers’ Hub, the Citizens’ Advice Bureau, the Rotary Club of Poynton, Clikety Click and Poynton Men In Sheds.
Local MP David Rutley took the opportunity to meet with many of the organisations present to learn more about the role they play in supporting people.
He also spoke with staff from Poynton Town Council, including local communities co-ordinator Sharon Duke and the mayor of Poynton Cllr Sarah-Jane Gilmore.
Any local resident who would like contact details of any of the organisations present can contact Sharon on sharon.duke@poyntontowncouncil.gov.uk.
