Tatton Park Scarecrow Festival 2020

Shares

From international sporting stars to local sporting heroes – the half term holidays mark the return of a bumper crop of athletic scarecrows at Tatton Park!

Sporting heroes is the theme for this year’s Tatton Park Scarecrow Festival, in celebration of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and next year’s Rugby League World Cup.

Tatton Park’s gardening, visitor experience and farm volunteer teams have put together the popular annual scarecrow trail throughout the gardens and the farm in time for the February half term school holidays.

Families can strike a pose with straw sculptures in racing cars, playing basketball or swinging a cricket bat.

Kids can also play alongside scarecrow sports stars and enjoy activities and games inspired by real life sporting legends.

Local schools have come together with Tatton Park’s education team too, to create five scarecrows representing Rugby League players, to celebrate the wold cup tournament being hosted in northern towns and cities during October and November 2021.

The scarecrows created by the children are:

– Steve Prescott MBE made by Croft Primary School

– James Simpson made by Foxwood School

– Adam Hills made by Gorse Covert Primary School

– Jodie Cunningham made by Oakwood Avenue Primary School

– Gareth Widdop made by Woolston Community Primary School

In addition, there are plenty of sports stars to be found the orchards and walled kitchen gardens.

Regular visitors might also spot the return of some familiar straw faces, scattered throughout 50 acres of gardens.

This year you’ll find even more sporting scarecrows down on the farm – amongst the paddocks, stables and farmyard.

The scarecrows are practising skiing, kayaking, horse riding and recreating famous sporting moments.
