Cheshire West and Chester Council is asking people for their views about electric vehicle (EV) charging within the borough.
A public consultation on the council’s draft strategy on EV charging launched at the start of this month and will close on 15th March 2023.
The council says uptake of electric vehicles has grown rapidly over recent years, and there are now growing calls for more charging facilities.
Making it easier for people to switch to electric vehicles forms a key part of the authority’s Climate Emergency Response Plan.
The strategy promotes active modes of travel first – such as walking, wheeling or cycling – or public transport, followed by a transition to zero emission vehicles where car travel is unavoidable.
Its Electric Vehicle Charging Strategy will set out how the council aims to help drivers with the forthcoming transition to electric vehicles.
It will include details on where charging points might be installed – for instance in town centres, and at supermarkets and restaurants.
The government is expected to announce national funding soon, which councils can apply for, to help pay for some of the infrastructure costs involved.
The council’s deputy leader, Cllr Karen Shore said: “If you have any comments or views regarding charging electric vehicles in the borough, please get involved in our consultation.
“We want to hear from as many residents, businesses, communities and other stakeholders as possible. Help us to shape our strategy for the future of transport in the borough.”

Ideas gathered from the public consultation will help to shape the final draft of the strategy, which will be presented to council leaders in the summer.
