The Friends of Handforth Station (FoHS) have unveiled a new exhibition of artwork that forms a trail through the centre of Handforth.
The pictures, by local artist Eamonn Murphy, reflect the style of the UK’s classic travel posters of the 1920s and 1930s.
They celebrate places of interest that are accessible from railway stations in Greater Manchester and Cheshire – and include many in the Handforth and Wilmslow area.
The pictures were commissioned by the Crewe to Manchester Community Rail Partnership (C2M CRP), which is the local association of ‘friends of a station’ groups.
Ian Ball (FoHS treasurer), who helped organise the exhibition, said: “The exhibition takes the form of a trail linking more than 25 display sites within our village.”
He added: “Leaflets illustrating the trail are available from several of our public buildings.”
The pictures, which have been exhibited for several weeks at Crewe Heritage Centre, are on display in Handforth throughout August, up until 11th September.
Mark Barker, chair of C2M CRP, said: “Eamonn Murphy has created some truly iconic images of the communities on the Crewe to Manchester line.
“It is great to see these images on display at so many businesses and public buildings in Handforth. It will be a pleasure touring round them to enjoy the artwork.”
Mike Bishop, president of FoHS, added: “We’re also running a competition, for people to win one of several exciting prizes!
“For more details, pick up a leaflet and a competition entry form from the station, the library or the youth centre.”
