Alderley Edge in Bloom and Nether Alderley Parish Council are organising a litter pick of The Alderley Edge Bypass this weekend.
The litter pick will take place from 11am on Sunday 2nd April, setting off from the Chelford Road bridge near the cemetery.
The event is part of Keep Britain Tidy’s Great British Spring Clean campaign.
Volunteer Stewart Dyer commented: “We have pledged to fill over 40 bags of litter this Sunday.
“We welcome local residents to join in and help clear the worst of the rubbish that litters the bypass. We can help with equipment and hi-vis jackets.
“Ansa are lending us some litter picking equipment and supplying litter bags. The full bags will be picked up by Ansa early next week.”
Leslie Cox, chair of Alderley Edge in Bloom, said: “We pick litter all year round. We meet at the station car park every Monday morning at 10am and pick for an hour before retiring to the village for a well-earned cup of coffee.
“It’s great exercise with an important social element. I’m sure the bypass pick will be a big success and it’s great to have our friends from Nether Alderley parish join us.
“You will have no doubt read of the increasing problem of serious litter problems in this country and the call for more fines for littering and fly-tipping.
“This is an opportunity for us to put wishes into action in our community and to actually do something about the sorry state of our bypass which I know angers so many residents.
“Why not bring family and friends along on the day and make it a special community event – highlighting the sorry, neglected state the whole bypass has been in for many years.”
