North Light Chester, situated in the former Chester library, closed on 6th January
The company which runs The Botanist and North Light in Chester has issued a statement following the closure of one of its venues in the city.
Bosses at New World Trading Company (NWTC) said they entered a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA) in October 2024 to help them repay the firm’s creditors, a move which they said was approved by more than 95% of creditors who responded.
The same month, the company closed three sites – The Botanist in Alderley Edge, The Botanist in Knutsford and The Florist in Liverpool.
A further three non-profitable sites were closed on 6th January – North Light in Chester, The Botanist in Coventry and The Botanist in Sheffield.
Bosses said they now plan to convert The Furnace in Sheffield to become The Botanist in February, and following this they plan to open a new restaurant – The Botanist in Bournemouth – in May.
A spokesperson for NWTC said: “The business has undergone changes to its estate across the last 18 months including successfully rebranding The Club House, The Smugglers Cove, and The Canal House to The Botanist.
“NWTC has opened new locations under The Botanist brand in Edinburgh, Sunderland and Barnsley and will continue to expand in 2025 with a new Botanist opening in Bournemouth in May 2025.”
The company currently operates 28 sites across the UK – including The Florist (Watford), The Trading House (London) and The Oast House (Manchester).
