Hundreds of children and their families are expected to gather at Mill Island in Nantwich this May, as a fleet of rubber ducks are released into the water in aid of Hope House Children’s Hospice.
The Nantwich Duck Race will take place on Sunday 10th May from midday, and is being organised by members of Nantwich Lions Club.
There are two categories: the original race duck (at £1 for a baby duck) or the larger corporate ducks (at £30, which are heartily encouraged to be decorated).
The corporate ducks will be judged by a local dignitary for ‘best dressed’ duck before being thrown into the water for their own race to compete for the fastest duck trophy.
Hope House Children’s Hospice area fundraiser Nicola Eyes said: “Sadly, every week, three local families face their biggest fear and their child dies.
“Whilst we cannot stop children dying we can stop families suffering on their own.
“When they are facing the most devastating loss of their lives we must be there.
“We need to reach every child, mum, dad, sister and brother and to do this we need to raise more money.”
Hope House needs to raise in excess of £6m a year to support all the children and families they help from across Cheshire, Shropshire and North Wales.
The first ever Nantwich Duck Race – last year – made just over £1,800 for Hope House and hopefully this year’s event will be even bigger with the help of the local people of Nantwich.
