North East Derbyshire District Council has announced a new target date for the completion of the Clay Cross Active site, which will replace Sharley Park Leisure Centre.
The council hopes the development in Chesterfield will now be ready by summer 2025.
In a statement, they said: “Since the announcement of [developer] ISG going into administration, we have been working extremely hard with our partner Alliance Leisure in the background to progress the works as quickly as possible.
“As previously stated, Universal Civils & Build has been appointed as the new contractor for the project.
“They have already secured and made the site safe, and will be intensifying work from December.”
An exact opening date will be confirmed in the coming months, the council said.
Clay Cross Active is expected to provide a fitness suite, spin studio, sports hall, main pool and learner pool with spectator seating, a changing places facility, treatment rooms, wellness suite, soft play and a cafe.
Citizens Advice North East Derbyshire will also be based there.
