Waitrose in Alderley Edge has teamed up with colleagues from its sister company John Lewis in Cheadle to offer (where possible) same-day delivery on essential food packages in the local area.
A store spokesperson explained: “We know during this period of uncertainty, many of our most loyal and vulnerable customers can’t go shopping like they normally would.”
The ‘Essential Packages for the Vulnerable’ service means that a selection of ambient food products can be delivered by John Lewis delivery staff without the need for temperature controlled vans.
There are three packages to choose from:
- Essential Vegan/Vegetarian
- Essential Gluten Free
Customers can also add an optional bolt-on package to cover some essential non-food items (such as toiletries, pet care and paracetamol).
The store’s guidance recommends that one package will provide around a fortnight of food per person for those using the service.
They estimate that the cost (if all items are available in stock) will be approximately £45.
The store’s spokesperson added: “Our nutrition team have designed the packages to provide a healthy balance of ingredients, which cover all food groups and have, on average, five portions of your five-a-day.”
Recipe cards are being included in the packages to inspire customers with meals they can easily make using the ingredients provided in each package.
The service is being operated on a delivery or collection basis, and there will be no additional charge for the deliveries.
The packages will contain a set list of products, and delivery will take place between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.
Team Manager Jo Dunscombe said: “We’re now offering same-day delivery of our Essential Packages for elderly and vulnerable customers, plus their carers.
“With three options to choose from, our packages are designed to provide the daily basics you need.”
