National newspapers are again hailing Sandbach resident, and founder of Bet365, Denise Coates as Britain’s most highly-paid boss.

It follows her climbing to the top of the rankings last year with an estimated remuneration package (including bonuses) in excess of £265 million.

Newspapers are today (18th December) reporting that Coates pocketed a near-£60 million pay rise this time around.

She is said to have taken home a basic salary of almost £277 million in the year ending March 2019.

It means she is comfortably sort at the top of the tree when it comes to the highest-paid bosses in the country.

Along with her large salary, Ms Coates ranks highly on The Sunday Times’ list of the UK’s top tax payers and is placed 244th in the list of the world’s billionaires (with a net worth of around £9.3 billion).

Ms Coates, 52, founded the online gambling company in the early 2000s after spotting the potential for revolutionising the gambling industry.

She owns around half of the shares in the company, according to Forbes, and gamblers placed more than £64.5 billion in bets with the company over the 2018/2019 financial year.

This figure was up nearly a quarter on the year before, according to Bet365’s accounts.

The company’s turnover hit almost £3 billion, while the firm banked £800 million in pre-tax profits.

Last year Ms Coates donated £85 million from the business’s coffers to the Denise Coates Foundation – £75 million more than the year before.

“The size of the donation, and therefore the difference the foundation will be able to make to people’s lives over the coming years, are of great importance to the group,” she is quoted as saying.
