Shares

We’ve asked all of the candidates standing for election to Cheshire East Council to provide our readers with a short introduction to themselves.

We’ll publish these daily for all 52 council wards (in alphabetical order) in the build up to the local elections on 4th May 2023.

You can view all of the Cheshire East Council candidate submissions together by clicking here.

Listed below are all of the candidates seeking your vote in the Macclesfield Tytherington ward.

Voters in Macclesfield Tytherington can select two candidates to represent them on Cheshire East Council.

Macclesfield Tytherington candidates:

  • John Bowden (Labour)
  • Beverley Dooley (Conservatives)
  • David Edwardes (Tytherington Ward Independents)
  • Emma Gilman (Tytherington Ward Independents)
  • Walter Houston (Green Party)
  • John Le Moignan (Conservatives)
  • David Mayers (Green Party)

John Bowden (Labour)

I have held strong socialist beliefs all my adult life and am secretary of Macclesfield Labour Party.

I work as sustainability lead for a brownfield and regeneration homebuilder and previously worked in the social housing sector.

I moved to Macclesfield two years ago and have thrown myself into the life of town – focusing on campaigning for net zero carbon and the opportunities that a new green economy, and warm efficient homes can bring for everyone.

I live nearby in Weston with my wife Karolina.

Beverley Dooley (Conservatives)

I have lived in Macclesfield since 1968. We run a family business that’s been on Mill Street for 75 years. I’m active within the community and volunteer with Healthwatch.

As a keen dog walker, I value green spaces around Macclesfield and believe their preservation is important.

I’m environmentally conscious and against the proposed green bin tax, which I believe will lead to more fly tipping and garden waste going in black bins.

I am passionate about standing up for my community, ensuring local businesses and residents feel listened to, valued and can access good public services.

Needless to say, pothole repairs are a priority, as will be the rejuvenation of Macclesfield and social care provision. I was a town and Cheshire East councillor between 2015 and 2019.

Investment is needed, but financial prudence is essential. I won’t stand for financially overburdening fellow residents.

David Edwardes (Tytherington Ward Independents)

Nothing submitted.

Emma Gilman (Tytherington Ward Independents)

Nothing submitted.

Walter Houston (Green Party)

I am a retired minister of religion and lecturer, still active in ministry and in research. I live in Macclesfield’s Tytherington ward.

For relaxation I read, walk and cycle and garden.

I am active in the Green Party because I keep a close eye on politics and I can see that it is the only political party that understands the ruin we are bringing on the natural world and the social injustice that is linked with that, and has a well-worked out plan for dealing with both.

That is why I am standing for the party in my own ward.

John Le Moignan (Conservatives)

I was born in Macclesfield, went to school here, and have lived here my whole life.

I work as a support officer for a local member of Parliament and have done so for the last three years.

This means that I know exactly what the key issues and concerns are for local residents, and I have had a lot of practise holding Cheshire East Council to account and making sure they act in residents’ best interests.

My previous job was working for a local butcher, so I know how important supporting local businesses is for the community.

I am motivated by a strong desire to do what is best for my town, and the people who live within it.

David Mayers (Green Party)

I am a retired teacher, passionate about the environment and sustainability.

I live in Tytherington ward, and want to ensure that all its residents have access to reliable and cheap public transport and safe opportunities for active travel.

We are subjected to increasing and damaging levels of air pollution from rising numbers of vehicles.

We urgently need fewer vehicles and lower speeds, preferably 20mph in all residential and shopping streets.

I believe that the Green Party can transform local politics; and on a national and global scale begin the economic changes we need to save us from the imminent climate disaster.
