Brereton Rural candidates:
- Mark Mitchell (Labour)
- Robert Douglas (Liberal Democrats)
- John Wray (Conservatives)

Mark Mitchell (Labour)
I am delighted to be the Labour and Co-operative candidate for Brereton Rural.
I work as an NHS GP and over the last few years I have seen how many people are struggling to get by.
I want to stand up for my community and fight to make things better.
If elected I will ensure local people and businesses are supported during the cost-of-living crisis.
I will oppose new speculative housing developments and I will hold builders to account for housing estates which are not fully completed to an acceptable standard.
I will fight for better local NHS and social care services.

Robert Douglas (Liberal Democrats)
I have lived in Brereton Rural for the last 17 years. I am a chartered accountant and was group financial director of a multi-million pound business for over 20 years.
I have been campaigning for a replacement recycling site in Congleton. Last month, I was interviewed by Sky News concerning the consequent rise in fly-tipping.
Due to evidence I obtained, Cheshire East set up a working group to re-look at future provision of recycling sites, with particular reference to Congleton.
I was one of the campaigners who stopped car park charges being imposed in Sandbach, Holmes Chapel, Middlewich and Alsager.
I have successfully ensured that the weedkiller glyphosate has been banned from 12 children’s play areas.
I will continue to vigorously campaign to protect our health, our environment and our air quality.
I will work with town/parish councils on issues including speeding, inappropriate developments and unsafe roads.

John Wray (Conservatives)
I have lived in the Cheshire area for 45 years and in Smallwood for 35 years. I’m married with two grown-up children, both educated at local schools.
I’m retired from my local family business – I was previously a quality assurance manager of an international company manufacturing scientific and medical equipment (renal dialysis machines to hydrogen generators).
I’ve served as a governor for the Cheshire & Wirral Mental Health Trust, and was also chair of a local charity for the disabled.
I’ve campaigned successfully for speed reduction on the A50 in Smallwood and A54 through Somerford which was a lengthy process. There is still more to do to improve road safety!
I enjoy being a councillor, I meet a lot of interesting people and sometimes you can really help resolve their issues and concerns.
I hope to continue as a councillor in order to further residents’ concerns.
So Cheshire remains proudly non-partisan and has provided the same opportunity to all parties and independent candidates.
