Alderley Edge Parish Council says residents are to have the opportunity to discuss the CCTV system in the village at a forthcoming parish council meeting on Monday 9th April.
Cheshire East Council CCTV manager Stuart Hobson has been invited to attend the meeting to give councillors and residents the chance to consider recent issues with CCTV and the options for a temporary system in the park over the summer months.
It’s part of a bid to try and counter vandalism, after damage caused to a number of planters in the village.
Many locals hold the view that the damage was caused by drunken revellers in the village, although the CCTV system has yet to prove effective in either identifying any culprits or confirming suspicions of vandalism.
Following a recent visit to the control room at Macclesfield Town Hall, Alderley Edge Parish Council says it will be keeping a close eye on the effectiveness of the CCTV cameras in Alderley Edge.
Councillors are also keen to hear details of a proposed upgrade to the CCTV system as well as examples of successful convictions in the village.
They hope to have the opportunity to receive detailed monthly reports in the future so they can monitor the system’s effectiveness.
Alderley Edge Parish Council currently pays £5500 each year for the provision of three surveillance cameras in the village, including monitoring and maintenance.
Cheshire East Council is understood to be proposing a new three-year contract for the service, which the parish council currently renews on an annual basis.
The village’s councillors will explore this proposal – as well as alternative options, and implications of ending the contract.
The parish council meeting will take place on Monday 9th April at 7pm in the Emerson Suite, Festival Hall, Talbot Road.
