Congleton is set to welcome the festive season with its annual Christmas lights switch on event later this month.
It’s taking place between 4-8pm on Friday 28th November in the town centre, with the switch on itself happening at 6pm.
Road closures will be in place on High Street, Mill Street, and Swan Bank between midday and 10pm to keep the event safe.
“The Christmas lights switch on is a highlight of the year for Congleton,” said town mayor, Cllr Robert Brittain.
“It brings our community together to celebrate, shop local, and enjoy a truly magical festive atmosphere.
“I can’t wait to see the town sparkle and welcome families, friends, and visitors to celebrate the start of Christmas in Congleton”
Performances and entertainment
Congleton Town Council has organised a programme of entertainment for the evening – including performances by Rode Hall Silver Band, Shakermaker, and Harry Jones.
There will also be local school and community groups performing on the community stage, plus street performers and Comedy Elves.
The town centre will play host to more than 40 festive market stalls and fairground rides, and the town council promised accessible facilities and quiet zones to ensure everyone can join in the celebrations.
There will also be a children’s zone with festive activities and face painting, and Santa will be giving a special rooftop wave at 7pm on Bridge Street.
Santa’s grotto and lantern parade
The lantern parade will gather at 5.15pm on Mill Street, setting off at 5.40pm to lead Santa to the town’s big Christmas tree for the switch on.
He will be accompanied by the Karamba samba group, as Congleton Rugby Club pull his sleigh.
Families can also visit Santa’s grotto inside Congleton Town Hall.
There is free entry, with fast-track booking available online. People can also turn up on the day.
