There is huge pressure on local businesses, firstly due to Covid-19, and now the energy crisis and inflation.
During the pandemic we worked hard to re-open local businesses safely.
We have also helped organise events and activities which bring people together, and to support the businesses in main shopping areas like Kingsway and in Hoole.
They are the centres of local neighbourhoods, and we continue to help raise funds for projects like Christmas lights, so that throughout the year these areas are places people can feel proud of.

Kenny Cunningham (Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition)
I am a local trade unionist, socialist and campaigner.
From the anti-poll tax campaign, which brought down Thatcher, to the current fight to save the NHS, I have been there.
As a TUSC candidate I will oppose all cuts to council jobs, services, pay and conditions; and reject increases in council tax, rent and service charges that compensate for government cuts.
I will also vote against the privatisation of council jobs and services.
The main parties have arrived at a political consensus that we must pay for the economic crimes of the capitalist class.
We need an alternative. Vote TUSC.

Bev Fraser (Liberal Democrats)
I moved to Chester around 25 years ago and have lived (and often worked) in the area ever since.
I have engaged in voluntary activities locally and in the wider Chester area, such as working with Great Boughton Parish Council and the relevant family and local businesses to fundraise for a memorial BMX track in Vicars Cross.
Later, I went on to register as a candidate for the Great Boughton Parish Council (as an independent candidate). I was successful and joined the council as an active member.
I look forward to working with the residents of Newton and Hoole, providing support to enhance the area we live in.

Across the UK community centres and children’s centres have closed as a result of government cuts.
I am proud that in Newton and Hoole, we have held the line – supporting community groups, finding funding for community facilities and even helping get some new ones started – like Crossroads Community Hub.
Across Chester, we have kept our leisure centre, day centres and children’s centres open.
We continue to fund places like Storyhouse, all because we know that these places are important to local residents.

Rose Price (Liberal Democrats)
I was born and educated in Chester and grew up in Newton, where I continued to live for many years, before moving to Hoole. I am currently a Greatt Boughton resident.
As an active Lib Dem in all wards in which I have lived, I’ve contributed to the party’s local and national election campaigns, and have twice been elected to serve on Great Boughton Parish Council, as well as helping to increase the Lib Dem vote as a candidate in two local council elections.
I was employed by the former Cheshire County Council as a music instructor within secondary and adult education, before later graduating with a first-class honours degree in history and psychology.
Since then, I have worked in a wide range of publishing contexts.
I have a strong connection to Chester, its culture and heritage, and a commitment to progressing Lib Dem policies and values in local government for a better, stronger community.

Gill Watson (Labour)
Across the country, funding for parks has been in decline due to cuts to councils from the central government.
That’s why I am so proud that locally we have managed to secure funding for improvements in every park in our ward over the past few years.
In some cases it has been new play equipment, benches, noticeboards or pathways, in others it has been tree planting, wildflowers and new habitats for wildlife.
We’re so grateful to all the brilliant residents who have helped with these projects. Your efforts make our area an even better place to live!
