We’ll publish these daily for all 52 council wards (in alphabetical order) in the build up to the local elections on 4th May 2023.

You can view all of the Cheshire East Council candidate submissions together by clicking here.

Listed below are all of the candidates seeking your vote in the Macclesfield South ward.

Voters in Macclesfield South can select two candidates to represent them on Cheshire East Council.

Macclesfield South candidates:

  • Joyce Beasley (Conservatives)
  • David Dooley (Conservatives)
  • Eddie Murphy (independent)
  • Andy Oldfield (independent)
  • John Peckham (Green Party)
  • Brian Puddicombe (Labour)
  • Fiona Wilson (Labour)

Joyce Beasley (Conservatives)

I moved to Poynton in 1976 with my husband, Denis.

We quickly became active in the community, and I became a leading member of Poynton Gilbert and Sullivan Society and Poynton Townswomen’s Guild Choir whilst frequently entertaining at local events with my singing partner, Christine Bird.

Denis served as a Poynton Conservative councillor for many years, later becoming county councillor until the Labour government divided the county into Cheshire East and West.

Following Denis’s sad death in 2004, I decided to follow his lead and become more involved with local politics.

I am a retired primary head teacher, now running my own tutoring company.

If elected, I would like to focus on the environment, protecting Macclesfield’s rich history and making it a lively and vibrant place for all who live there.

David Dooley (Conservatives)

I was born in Macclesfield and lived here all my life.

My earlier years were involved in accountancy until I gave the helping hand with my father’s business.

Because of my lifelong work via the high street, I am very aware of all the changes that have happened – also, the various proposals that were to have happened, but failed, due to bureaucratic incompetence.

We are now entering a new era, where the expansion of Macclesfield residential area has shifted from the north to the south. Lyme Green to Whirley Barn.

While we may not be able to stop elements of this development, it is important that we ensure Cheshire East oversees that this happens while safeguarding our environment.

Because of my accounting background I also believe that budgets should be adhered to and that officers should be held responsible, not creating future debt.

Eddie Murphy (independent)

Nothing submitted.

Andy Oldfield (independent)

Nothing submitted.

John Peckham (Green Party)

I’m not a natural politician, I don’t seek power, but I have been motivated to do something by the catastrophic mess that today’s leaders are making of protecting our future.

The Green Party represents wisdom, integrity and a welcome break from the corruption and self-interest that we hear about in Westminster.

I believe in planet and people before profit and power, in protecting and enhancing our natural environment and urgently reducing our use of scarce resources including fossil fuels.

Protecting the Earth is our future and that of our children and grandchildren, the time for change is now!

Brian Puddicombe (Labour)

I have represented Macclesfield South on Macclesfield Borough Council and Cheshire East Council at different times since 2003 and have over 10 years experience as a councillor.

I have lived on the ward for over 25 years and am a governor at Ivy Bank, a lay reader at St Edwards Church, a volunteer at Parkrun and a season ticket holder at Macclesfield FC.

I worked for many years in local bank branches and as a Unite union representative and have seen at first hand the continuing effects of Tory cuts on the finances of ordinary people struggling to make ends meet.

I have campaigned successfully to ensure no progress has been made on controversial planning applications on Danes Moss, successfully opposed the installation of phone masts in residential areas and dealt with resident’s casework on a wide range of issues.

I am standing for re-election to continue working for my community.

Fiona Wilson (Labour)

I have lived in Macclesfield South Ward for over 25 years and was elected to Macclesfield Town Council in 2019.

I have been honoured to serve as mayor of Macclesfield since May 2022 and my theme has been Our Community, Stronger Together.

I am now standing for Cheshire East Council where I will use my experience to continue to make a difference for residents.

I have successfully opposed the installation of mobile phone masts in residential areas, prevented building on the last green space on Moss Lane, campaigned against the development of Danes Moss, secured improved parks and play equipment and new toilets for the Town Centre.

I work part time in Macclesfield for a social housing charitable trust. I also worked for the Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers and for a town centre bank.

I volunteer at Parkrun and am a season ticket holder at Macclesfield FC.
