Shares

We’ve asked all of the candidates standing for election to Cheshire East Council to provide our readers with a short introduction to themselves.

We’ll publish these daily for all 52 council wards (in alphabetical order) in the build up to the local elections on 4th May 2023.

You can view all of the Cheshire East Council candidate submissions together by clicking here.

Listed below are all of the candidates seeking your vote in the Leighton ward.

Voters in Leighton can select one candidate to represent them on Cheshire East Council.

Leighton candidates:

  • Clair Chapman (Labour)
  • Teja Vaddala (Conservatives)
  • Jim Weir (independent)

Clair Chapman (Labour)

I was born, raised and continue to live in Crewe. I have been both a borough and town councillor, and have supported many residents with municipal issues both as a councillor and as a fellow resident.

As a borough councillor I was proud to be part of the adult health and  social care committee, as well as the licencing committee.

I am also the founder of the town’s roller derby team which competes at British championship level.

I work in the rail industry, and in my spare time I enjoy gardening and arts and crafts.

Teja Vaddala (Conservatives)

Nothing submitted.

Jim Weir (independent)

I have lived in Leighton for over 30 years and I am standing as a non-political independent candidate.

By being an independent candidate I will be able to primarily focus on what is best for the Leighton community, rather than follow a central party line.

I have served on the Church Minshull and Leighton Parish Council for the last six years, and as vice chair for the last 12 months.

During this time I have led and supported Mablins Lane School in obtaining several projects funded.

I have also encouraged and helped local residents in their environmental projects by obtaining funding for tools and materials.

So Cheshire remains proudly non-partisan and has provided the same opportunity to all parties and independent candidates.
