A 100-mile cycle ride has raised over £60,000 for local children’s cancer charity The Joshua Tree.
The Cheshire Dash 2022 took place on Saturday 2nd July, and saw more than 80 riders take on the 100-mile challenge that tracked across the Cheshire countryside and up some of the most gruelling hill-climbs in England.
The event was sponsored by Rolls-Royce, and exceeded its fundraising expectations.
Rich Driffield, CEO of The Joshua Tree, said: “A huge thank you to the incredible riders who took on the gruelling challenge of the 100-mile Cheshire Dash, not forgetting all the supporters for their encouraging cheers and to everyone who has donated.
“This year, we have already received over 55 new referrals from families across Cheshire, North-West England and North Wales.
“The funds raised will make a huge difference to the charity and to the lives of families affected by childhood cancers.”
To date The Joshua Tree has supported over 335 families with bespoke programmes of support to improve the emotional wellbeing and mental health of all immediate and extended family members who are affected by childhood cancers.
The charity was founded in 2006 by Lynda and David Hill after their son was diagnosed with leukaemia and they discovered a distinct lack of support services for all family members during the traumatic experience.
The charity works to support and improve the emotional wellbeing and mental health of all family members, for as long as they need help.
To expand and enrich the delivery of this service, the charity completed construction of a new purpose-built support centre in Sandiway (near Northwich) after 13 years of fundraising.
The Joshua Tree does not receive any statutory funding and relies on fundraising from events like the Cheshire Dash which it says are integral to its efforts.
