Clutton CE Primary School is holding an open day for their Ladybird Nursery and Busy Bees reception class on Saturday 15th June 2019 (10-11.30am).
The school is located on Broxton Road in Clutton, and is part of The Samara Trust, a multi-academy trust formed of three Cheshire primary schools (Clutton CE Primary School, Little Sutton CE Primary School and Upton Heath CE Primary School).
The open day offers a chance for families with children aged 3-5 years to visit the primary school which has a nursery provision called Ladybird Nursery and a reception class called Busy Bees within one classroom in the main school building.
Teacher of Busy Bees and Ladybirds, Wendy Dorset said: “The decision on where your child should attend for both pre school and school is a big one.
“At Clutton CE Primary School we are a little different in that our nursery and reception classes are combined into one class called Busy Bees and Ladybirds and are located right in the heart of the school.”
The set up of the classes at Clutton CE Primary School means that children can potentially be at the school from 3 years of age right through to when they leave for high school.
Mrs Dorset feels this bring is a big benefit.
“Moving from pre-school or nursery to ‘big school’ can be a huge step for children. It means getting to know new staff, new routines and a new environment.
“At Clutton CE Primary School, because we have one Busy Bees and Ladybirds class for our nursery and reception, children are settled, playing and working from day one and there is no transition to big school for them to worry about.”
Staff also find that an easy transition between classes is something that continues all the way through the school.
“As a teacher, the other benefit of having the mixed nursery and reception class is that we can work across the ability age range, educationally building up towards that first full year of school,” explained Mrs Dorset.
“We have children joining Ladybirds Nursery throughout the school year, as they turn three. Seeing the other children so settled helps them to feel comfortable and happy, which is our ultimate aim.”
Clutton CE Primary School offers 30 hours of free nursery provision for children aged 3 years and upwards, with nursery spaces available for September 2019 and a limited number of reception spaces.
