Wilmslow Symphony Orchestra’s Dermot Gault writes…

The mornings are getting chilly and the nights are drawing in, which means only one thing – yes, it’s time for another season of Wilmslow Symphony Orchestra concerts.

In recent years we’ve built up a reputation for varied programming and high quality performances, and our new season will be no exception.

Our first concert, which will be on Saturday 13th October, opens with Beethoven’s good-humoured King Stephen Overture.

Forget the chaotic King Stephen of England, this is the good King Stephen of Hungary.

The main work is an old favourite, the uplifting Symphony No 1 by Brahms.

In between comes Prokofiev’s tuneful Second Violin Concerto, for which we are delighted to welcome back Royal Northern College graduate Sophie Rosa, who played so memorably in our opening concert last year.

Conducting us for the first time is the talented Alex Robinson, a graduate of Manchester University who is currently studying conducting at the Royal Northern College.

Tonight’s guest leader will be Jac McKeigue.

As always, the venue is the Evans Theatre in Wilmslow Leisure Centre.

There is plenty of convenient free parking, and the theatre itself has comfortable seating and good disabled and restricted mobility access.

The tiered auditorium ensures that everyone can see as well as hear clearly.

The concert takes place on Saturday 13th October at 7.45pm in Wilmslow Leisure Centre.

Tickets cost £12 (concessions, £10 / under 18s, £2) and may be obtained from the ticket secretary (01925 756 144) and at the door.
