This week (12th-18th November 2018) is Self Care Week, and people across South Cheshire and Vale Royal are being encouraged to consider their health and wellbeing.
Self care is about knowing what to do to help develop, protect, maintain and improve your health, wellbeing and wellness.
All this week, free events and activities are taking place across South Cheshire and Vale Royal – run by the NHS and other partners – sharing the best tips for keeping yourself healthy or becoming more active.
Tips include: knowing how long common illnesses take to go away and which over-the-counter medicines to have at home so you’re prepared to tackle minor conditions.
Noreen Caldwell, public engagement and involvement manager at South Cheshire and Vale Royal CCGs, said: “This is all about empowering local people, giving them the information and the confidence they need to look after themselves, giving them the options and skills to be able to select and chose the most appropriate and best care for them is the essence of our local approach to self care.
“We’ve got loads of events and activities taking place all week, so keep checking the CCGs’ websites and social media to see what is going on near you.”
A number of local GPs have also been fronting short videos to help people learn more about self care.
Throughout the week there are guided dementia walks, self care workshops and both Brio Leisure and Crewe Lifestyle Centre are offering a limited number of free fitness classes.
Schools are also getting involved, working towards the CCGs’ Self Care Awards by learning about topics such as first aid and wider health and wellbeing advice.
