Following this summer’s biggest ever Buxton Fringe, organisers are already planning for next July’s event.
As well as sharing the dates of the event, running 7-25 July 2027, they have announced an open-to-all competition to design their programme cover – with a prize of £100 up for grabs.
Buxton Fringe has a reputation for spectacular artwork on its covers with 2026’s programme featuring a design by Andrea Joseph of High Peak Artists (picture above).
Entries are welcome in any medium and the new contest is open to amateur and professional artists of all ages.
The winning design will be featured on thousands of Fringe programmes as well as the event’s flyers, posters, marketing and in the press.
Runners up will also see their work featured via the Fringe website.
The choice of subject matter is being left for entrants to decide, but the Fringe has offered a few hints and guidelines which can be found on the festival website.
“The winning entry will be bold and eye-catching, showcasing the distinctive style of the artist whilst conveying the spirit of the Fringe,” said marketing officer Stephanie Billen.
“For 2027 the Fringe is also an active participant in Buxton Our Street’s year-long Buxton Water Festival so, whilst the Fringe should be the star of the show, we also encourage artists to think about including a visual reference to water.”
More information on Buxton Water Festival can be found online.
The closing date for the Fringe’s programme competition is 8 January 2027.
Participants should submit their entry online, where they can find full instructions and tips.
Anyone interested in finding out more about the Fringe is also welcome to the festival’s annual review on 26 November (7-9pm) at the Pump Room, opposite Buxton Crescent.
