Macclesfield’s Treacle Market will not take place later this month, as event organisers cancel or postpone numerous other events across the area due to the global outbreak of the Covid-19 virus.
This month’s cancelled Treacle Market was due to take place on Sunday 29th March.
Treacle Market organiser Jane Munro said “In nearly 10 years of market trading we have never cancelled before but feel we must all do our part in restricting the spread coronavirus and cannot bring people together en masse.
“The safety of the Treacle community is our absolute priority.”
She added: “This decision will have a profound impact on the small businesses who trade at Treacle generating a vital part of their monthly income.
“We will be promoting them on social media and hope our loyal followers will choose to support these creative producers by buying mail order from them or purchasing vouchers.”
“We hope to hold a Virtual Treacle Market on 29th March on our Facebook page.”
