This October, Cheshire West and Chester libraries are once again joining the 300+ Fun Palaces across the UK which will be filled with free, fun activities.
Fun Palaces is a national campaign to bring culture into communities and can include anything from arts and crafts to science and technology or sport.
There will be Fun Palaces at the libraries in Ellesmere Port, Neston, Northwich and Storyhouse in Chester on Saturday 6th October, with a wide variety of interactive activities.
Ellesmere Port Library
At Ellesmere Port Library (10am-1pm), join in with biscuit decorating, get creative with LEGO, test your brain in the ‘escape room’, get crafty at the creation station, challenge yourself with a selection of new and traditional board games and experience an interactive video installation.
At Neston Library (10am-3pm), join in the wide range of craft activities such as making dragonflies with the RSPB, creating paper totem poles which symbolise your personality or design your very own Fun Palaces badge and keyring.
Immerse yourself in a drama with the Little Actors Theatre or have your photo taken with a Star Wars storm trooper, sand trooper or even a tie pilot.
Also at Neston Library, visitors can become a scientist with the Institute of Physics and ‘Molecular Marty’ or learn a new skill such as hair braiding or nail art.
There will also be an opportunity to create your own movie trailer at the digital storytelling workshop and then have it screened at the secret cinema.
In Northwich Library (10.30am-7pm), visitors can try their hand at weaving, wet felt or creative writing. This year’s event also includes an ‘escape room’, animation coding and slime making.
There will also be science experiments which just might turn your tongue blue!
Local partners such as the WI will be providing craft tasters at Northwich Library, and Rudheath & Witton Together will be demonstrating lion mask making.
The afternoon will be rounded off with some talented local musicians and at 7.30pm visitors can be part of the very first NOW Northwich festival procession which starts at the library.
At Storyhouse, Fun Palaces return with a focus on sustainability.
Take your sustainability pledge on the community mural, make candles and bath bombs at the recycling craft workshops and add your own contribution to Storyhouse’s collaboration patchwork.
There will also be some exciting animal handling sessions, games and many other activities.
