Northern Chamber Orchestra plus Julian Bliss, clarinet
The Heritage Centre, Macclesfield – Sat 27th Oct (7.30pm)
Julian Bliss, one of the world’s finest solo clarinettists, is coming to Macclesfield.
Excelling as a concerto soloist, chamber musician, jazz artist, masterclass leader and tireless musical explorer, Julian will be joining the Northern Chamber Orchestra later this month.
He’ll be playing Carl Maria von Weber’s Clarinet Concerto No 2.
Speaking about his performance of the same piece with the Hallé orchestra in 2017, online music magazine Bachtrack said: “His reputation as one of the finest (and most versatile) clarinet soloists around is without question.
“The purity of his tone through the first movement was exquisite, with beautiful dynamic control throughout the register.”
The programme also includes Malcolm Arnold’s Sinfonietta No 1, along with two works written at times of political explosiveness – Suk’s Meditation on the old Czech Chorale ‘St Wenceslas’ and Haydn’s Symphony No 102.
Formed in the late 1960s, the Northern Chamber Orchestra is one of the country’s top chamber orchestras, and this year celebrates its 50th anniversary.
The orchestra holds its main concert season in Macclesfield’s Heritage Centre and also performs regularly at venues around the North of England.
