As we shared with our readers back in February, Wilmslow’s Cinema on The Carrs event is set to return this summer – with ABBA musical ‘Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again’ marking the event’s fifth outing.
Following the most successful outdoor cinema event in Wilmslow in 2018 – with record attendances for both the afternoon and evening features – Cinema on the Carrs is back in just over two weeks’ time.
Wilmslow Town Council has again agreed to fund the event, and a number of changes have been brought in to improve the event this time around.
The event will start at midday, when children’s rides, entertainment and the food court will open.
There will then be a showing of Pixar movie ‘The Incredibles’ on the big screen at 2pm and the annual duck race on the River Bollin, organised by local Guides.
The main evening feature will be shown on the big screen as darkness falls, at around 8pm.
Wilmslow Town Council chairman Martin Watkins said: “Last year the event was hugely supported and enjoyed, indeed the numbers attending last year has led us to needing to upgrade the sound system, the screen size and the layout for this year.
“One of the best things about Cinema on the Carrs every year is friends and neighbours getting together to have a great time.
“We can guarantee that those attending in 2019 will have a thoroughly enjoyable day however what we can’t guarantee is the weather so I would encourage all to get the date in the diary and to make plans to enjoy the day come rain or shine, whilst the council pray for the later!”
As The Carrs rock to the sounds of ABBA for the second time, residents can enjoy a food court and music from 6pm, prior to the film starting.
First introduced in 2015, the inaugural Cinema on the Carrs event showed the first Mamma Mia movie and proved hugely popular.
The event is free to attend.
