Local MP takes to the green at start of new bowling season

Members of Macclesfield Bowling Club were joined by local MP David Rutley for the launch of the new bowling season recently.

Alongside club president Sue Munslow, who in her remarks highlighted the continued growth of the club, David gave a short speech to mark the new bowling season.

He then had the honour of ‘taking the wood’ and making the first bowl of the season, to officially open the green.

David was pleased to hear that membership of Macclesfield Bowling Club continues to grow, with an impressive number of members (almost 100) now registered.

One member is aged in their nineties and still actively bowling!

The club is always pleased to welcome new players, whether seasoned bowlers or those new to the sport.

Anyone interested in joining can contact club secretary Jan Gates on 01625 829 327 for further information.

The club has a regular programme of activities and social events, and participates in regular tournaments throughout the bowling season, competing against other bowling associations in Macclesfield and Cheshire East more widely.

Speaking after the event, David said: “It is always a pleasure to join members of Macclesfield Bowling Club for the launch of the new season and I wish all members every success for the year ahead.

“Bowling is a great way to keep active and healthy, and make friendships. I would encourage yet more local residents to learn more about and take part in this fun and sociable activity.”
