Local photographer helps put Scouts in the frame

Shares

In early March, Knutsford-based photographer Julie Whelan visited children from 5th Knutsford Scouts to help them brush up on their camera skills and work towards their photography activity badges.

The group meets on a Wednesday evening at the Scout Hut on Blackhill Lane.

As well as providing them with technical information and a handout to take home, Julie taught the Wolves Scout Troop the basics of composition and helped them to take portraits of each other.

She then set them the task of taking a landscape shot and a black and white photograph at home, both of which counted towards their badge.

“I had so much fun with the kids,” said Julie, who lives in Knutsford with her husband and three daughters.

“I was blown away by their enthusiasm and passion, and by the quality of their work.”

Scout leader Laura Jennings added: “I’m so grateful that Julie was able to come along to our meeting and give us her time.

“Not only was it a fun and engaging session, but it was hugely inspirational for the Scouts. As well as learning a new skill, they now all have a badge to show for it.”

Julie also runs an after school club at Bexton Primary School, where she helps out as a midday assistant.

The club is split into two sessions; one for years 3 and 4 and the other for the older pupils in years 5 and 6.

Julie told us: “Children are quick to learn and it’s lovely to watch them grow in confidence and ability.”
