The Wombats are set to headline the opening night of a new series of live music events this May, which help mark Stoke-on-Trent’s centenary year.

The concerts, taking place at the Trentham estate, are part of the Stoke 100 celebrations, a year-long programme marking a century since King George V granted Stoke-on-Trent its city status.

The Wombats will be taking to the stage on Thursday 29th May, with support from Pale Waves and Red Rum Club.

Bosses also announced recently that Ocean Colour Scene would be topping the bill on Friday night, leaving only Saturday’s headliners yet to be revealed.

The concerts promise unmissable live music against a stunning backdrop of one of the Midlands’ most iconic outdoor venues.

The Wombats are amongst the UK’s most celebrated indie bands, and are known for songs such as Let’s Dance to Joy Division, Kill the Director and Moving to New York.

Their latest album – Fix Yourself, Not The World – topped the UK charts in 2022, and their new record Oh! The Ocean is set for release in February.

“It’s going to be a brilliant evening,” said Alastair Budd, senior director at Trentham.

“We’re thrilled to welcome The Wombats to Trentham to perform in our iconic gardens, alongside Pale Waves and Red Rum Club.

“This line-up celebrates the variety and talent of British indie music and is a fantastic addition to Stoke-on-Trent’s centenary celebrations.”

Early-bird tickets for The Wombats, with a 20% discount, will be on sale from 10am on Friday 24th January.

Early-bird ticket prices will last for seven days, but Trentham members will have access to a pre-sale from 10am on Thursday 23rd January.
