Organisers of the Wilmslow Running Festival are going ahead with their event – despite numerous other events across the area being cancelled or postponed due to the global outbreak of Covid-19 coronavirus.
A statement on the event website states: “The Wilmslow Running Festival is still planned to go ahead on the 15h March and we’re looking forward to welcoming you to the event.”
It continues: “Currently the UK Government is not recommending cancelling events. However, we will continue to monitor developments closely and note any advise given by the Government and other public bodies.
“We are consulting with our medical providers to put appropriate guidance and best practice in place so that the event can go ahead safely.
“We have stepped up operational plans with greater encouragement for hand washing and as always gloves for the marshals with direct competitor contact on the drink stations and finish area.
“We recommend our runners continue to monitor the advice set out by the UK Government, NHS and the World Health Organisation and to please follow the NHS advice on Coronavirus symptoms and how it can be spread here: www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/
“On Event Day, if you are feeling at all unwell – DO NOT travel to the race or take part in the event.
“Our runners’ safety is our top priority and we want to ensure everyone is fit and well for the race.
“This information will be updated as required and we will of course keep you informed of any change.”
