Sandbach family grocer wins prestigious national award

Shares

Godfrey C. Williams & Son, a traditional grocer based in Sandbach, has been named ‘Grocer Shop of the Year’ in the Guild of Fine Food’s Shop of the Year Awards 2018.

Following a rigorous judging process – including a mystery shopper visit – the shop was crowned the winner at a glittering ceremony at the guild’s headquarters in London.

Daniel Williams, of Godfrey C. Williams & Son, said: “To be crowned best grocer is a feeling that we still haven’t quite gotten used to!

“Thank you to the Guild of Fine Food and Le Gruyere for recognising us with this prestigious award.”

He added: “We regard our family-run, traditional shop not just as a business, but as a way of life.

“When quality food and exceptional customer service are at the heart of everything we do, everything else just falls into place.”

Established in 1875, and a family-run business for five generations, Godfrey C. Williams & Son stocks over 250 cheeses, roasts their own coffee, and offer a range of local produce.

Judges at the awards included food journalist Patrick McGuigan, ex-Fortnum & Mason food buyer Sam Rosen-Nash and Academy of Cheese expert Tracey Colley.
