Overnight road closures in Chester

Shares

Overnight road closures will be in place at the A483 Overleigh Roundabout and A483 Grosvenor Road this month to allow Cheshire West and Chester Council to carry out resurfacing works.

Works begin on Sunday 18th March and continue until Sunday 25th March, between 8pm and 6am.

The routes will re-open to all users during the daytime and pedestrian routes will be maintained at all times.

To ensure the safety of both of the workforce and the travelling public a full road closure is needed, however access will be maintained for emergency services.

The two schemes are part of the council’s highway maintenance programme but have been programmed together to minimise both duration of works and disruption as much as possible on this key commuter link into the city.

The works will take place at both locations at the same time:

• A483 Grosvenor Road: carriageway resurfacing works from Nuns Road to the Grosvenor Bridge.

• A483 Overleigh Roundabout: carriageway resurfacing works around the full roundabout.

A council spokesperson said: “Because of the nature of the works, there is no alternative but to fully close the road which means that there will be no access in or out of Chester city, or between Wrexham Road, Saltney or Handbridge via this route using Overleigh Roundabout.”

The diversions are as follows:

1) From Chester city centre (vice versa) – Grosvenor roundabout, via the inner ring road (Nicholas Street, St Martins, Fountains roundabout, St Oswalds Way, Hoole Way roundabout), to the A51 Boughton/Tarvin Road/Whitchurch Road, Sainsbury’s roundabout, A55 Southerly bypass:

2) For Wrexham/A483 Chester/Business Park – exit at the A55/A483 Post House roundabout.

3) For Broughton/Saltney/Lache/Curzon Park – continue on the A55 southerly bypass and exit at Broughton.

The council’s cabinet member for environment, Cllr Karen Shore said: “Whilst every effort will be made to complete the work on schedule, the majority of these works are weather dependant and any lengthy spells of poor weather could lengthen our works programme.

“Throughout the scheme we will issue updates if needed. We are committed keeping Cheshire’s highways safe and well maintained.

“Unfortunately, a certain amount of inconvenience is inevitable and we thank drivers for their patience and support while these essential works take place.”

The road closure points will be as follows:

1) Chester – there will be NO access to Grosvenor Road off the Grosvenor roundabout.  There will be NO access onto Grosvenor Road from Nuns Road or Castle Drive junctions.

2) Handbridge – Will be closed on Overleigh Road at its junction with Old Wrexham Road.  Access to residents between Old Wrexham Road up to Overleigh roundabout will be via Handbridge direction only. There will be NO route via Overleigh roundabout.

3) A483 Wrexham Road – Road closure will be from the Nuffield Hospital Entrance. Access only to residents between Overleigh roundabout and the Nuffield will be available via this route with no through route via Overleigh roundabout.

4) Lache Lane – Will be closed from Cavendish Road with access only to residents between this point and Overleigh roundabout via Lache Lane direction only. No through route via Overleigh roundabout.

5) Hough Green/Saltney – Will be closed at Selkirk Drive. Access only to residents beyond this point up to Overleigh roundabout. No through route via Overleigh roundabout.

6) Curzon Park – Will be closed after the junction of Dingle Bank/Curzon Park North/Curzon Park South. Access to residents only beyond this point. No through route via Overleigh roundabout.
